What is Psychological counselling?

Psychological Counselling is a process designed to assist people caught in the problems of everyday living. It is an interaction between a therapist and a client that leads to changes from less to more adaptive state of thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Also known as psychotherapy or talk therapy, it heals emotional distress by psychological methods.

I believe counselling can help you to address specific areas of distress, but also help you create a map for lifelong emotional well being.

A Map for Emotional Wellbeing

Emotional wellbeing refers to more than the mere absence of depression, anxiety or other diagnosable psychological disorders. Rather it is the presence of qualities that allow us to create for ourselves the best possible life.

Emotional wellbeing requires the ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships, ability to deal with uncertainty and adapt to the changes in one’s life.

Emotionally healthy individuals have the ability to feel, express and manage a range of positive and negative emotions.

In our sessions, I will help you map out a path towards emotional wellbeing, so that you have the tools necessary to be at peace and have fulfilling relationships.

About The Counsellor

Even after 2 decades of experience, I am just as passionate about helping people work through difficult emotional challenges as ever.

I hope you will get in touch, so I will be able to help you create the change in your life that will allow you to build your own map of emotional wellbeing.

In addition to my practice, I teach psychology and counselling subjects at several highly reputable universities in Singapore.

What therapeutic and interventional techniques do you use?

There are many. Some techniques are based on the premise that our past experiences cause current psychological problems. So,understanding our historical patterns can help us understand why we do what we do. Others are based on the assumption that beneath negative emotions lie negative thoughts. So, rationalising through problems can help people address them. My decision to choose any specific technique is based on the clients’ needs. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns about counselling, therapy, and what they mean for you.

Do you have experience with people from different backgrounds?

Yes. I have worked with people from many countries, religions, and world views including expatriates and Singaporeans. Cultural differences do play a role in how people act and perceive their circumstances, and it is important to choose a counsellor who is attuned to cultural diversity.

How many sessions do I need? How long are they?

That depends on what issues you’d like to work on, their complexity, and how entrenched they are in your way of life. Each session is 1 hour. Many people start with 2-6 sessions, but we can decide together how few or how many sessions you will need to address your concerns.
I recommend getting in touch by email or text to Schedule a 20 minute free phone consultation to determine how best to proceed.

Does counselling work?

Research has shown that therapy can help you understand and correct issues that are causing pain and stress in your life. However, the benefits of counselling are strongly dependent on the willingness of the participants. People who are motivated and willing to work through these sessions benefit from them most.
